Their first production in June 1999 was a musical compilation show entitled ‘The Magic of the Musicals’, performed at the Barn Theatre, Oxted with a cast of around 40 local performers. It raised around £4,000 for the theatre’s ‘Barn 2000’ charity appeal.
In 2001, The Barnstormers were invited to the Minack Theatre in Porthcurno, Cornwall for the first time with their production of the hit musical ‘Little Shop of Horrors’.
The Barnstormers capitalised on their early successes by continuing to produce a series of highly acclaimed musicals and plays at the Barn and Minack Theatres.
2004 – 2009
In 2010, they toured to the Minack Theatre with the hit musical ‘Jesus Christ Superstar’ and were overwhelmed to be awarded the coveted Minack Trophy for the most outstanding production of the season.
They returned to the Minack Theatre 3 years later with their production of the powerful and poignant musical ‘Parade’, and were hugely honoured to be once again awarded the prestigious Minack Trophy.
This tremendous achievement is all the more remarkable as this was the first time ever that a touring theatre company had won the trophy ‘back-to-back’ on consecutive visits to the Minack.
In 2019, The Barnstormers celebrated their 20th anniversary with a charity gala show entitled ‘Encore!’ presented at the Barn Theatre, Oxted.
At the end of the show, the Chairman of the Barn Theatre presented Richard Allen with the very first ‘Barn Lifetime Award’ in recognition of all his support for the Barn Theatre over the last 20 years.
